Saucony Ride 17 Review

White and red Saucony running shoe on white background

The Saucony Ride 17 is more than just a small upgrade. This brand new daily trainer has a midsole that enhances energy return and responsiveness along with many other features. In this Saucony Ride 17 review I will go over my own experience with this model and find out how it compares to the previous versions.

Cushioning

A good level of cushioning is an essential component of a great shoe. A cushioned midsole helps relieve stress from the joints and provides support that makes long distance runs much easier.

Support

Good support is essential for all runners, so it is very important that when buying trainers an individual buys running shoes that have enough support. That may look different for all runners but it is important to consider.

It is important that a supportive running shoe provides a stable platform and reduces the risk of potential injuries.

Durability

I believe that it is important to buy shoes that have been built to last. If you are going to spend your own money on shoes then they should stay in good working condition for many months to come.

Fit

Making sure your shoes fit properly is very important as if a shoe is too big it can cause the shoes to start to rub against you feet causing blisters and other discomforts. By not having a shoe that fits it will also get rid of the possibility of a comfortable run.

Breathability

Breathable materials in the upper part of the shoe helps keep the feet cool and dry during runs. This is because it helps prevent the build up of sweat and moisture in the shoe which reduces discomfort and irritation when running.

A breathable upper shoe enhances comfort and can be a life saver when running in hot days as it helps prevent overheating. This makes shoes with this feature an excellent choice as well as a comfortable fit.

Value

Running shoes can get really expensive and if you are someone that runs a lot you will have to keep coming back to buy more. This can really add up which is why I have added cost to the list of important factor.

Energy Return

There is no better feeling than being propelled by a responsive running shoe. A running shoe should that gives energy back to the runner can make all types of runs feel so much nicer. This category is even more important in race day shoes.

Saucony Ride 17 First Impressions

I am a huge fan of the ride series so I was very excited to try this model and see how it compared to the previous versions. At first I was pleased that Saucony had made this shoe so aesthetically pleasing just like the others. When I first put this shoe on I was surprised at how different it felt. I thought it would be similar to the 16 with only a few minor changes but I was very wrong.

When I started running I could tell right away that they had completely changed the midsole. It was so much bouncier and more responsive which really allowed me to pick up the pace. I also loved how spacious the upper felt. It was perfectly accommodating for wide feet and fleet very spacious which really made for a comfortable shoe.

One issue I did have once I started going on longer runs with this shoe is that the upper does have limited breathability. I felt my feet starting to overheat very quickly, especially during hot conditions. The upside of this however is that I live in Scotland where it is always cold so this wasn’t a huge issue for me however if you live somewhere hot your feet will overheat.

Why Should You Buy These Shoes?

This shoe is a top pick for runners who are in search of a reliable daily trainer that has excellent durability and performance across various different distances. This shoe is also perfect for runners who loved the previous versions as this shoe has everything those models do and more.

Why Should You Not Buy These Shoes?

The only downside of this shoe is its breathability. So if you are a runner that lives in hot conditions then I would recommend having a look at either New Balance 880 V14 or the Mizuno Wave Rebellion Pro 2 .

Upper of the shoe

The upper of this model was the only weak point. It is soft and comfortable however it offers very little breathability. The upper is roomy and offers lots of space which is good for runners who don’t like having shoes too tight on their feet. Even though the upper is roomy is doesn’t rub which was an initial concern.

This shoe also has excellent heel lockdown. I never ever felt as if my feet were going to slip without the use of a runners knot which I really liked.

Foam of the shoe

This model contains TPU based PWRRUN+ foam which was even more responsive and energetic than the previous model. When I was running I could really feel this shoe propelling me along so if you are interested in speed then this trainer is a great choice.

This model also offers excellent stability so if you are a runner who likes a little more support this shoe will accommodate that.

Sole of the shoe

The outsole of this shoe offers excellent traction and grip which allowed me to make very tight turns without having the fear of slipping. I tested these shoes in both wet and dry conditions and they should to offer grip in both.

The outsole is also very durable. I used these shoes for over 50 miles and they showed no signs of wear and tear so if you want a model that will last you a long time then this is an excellent choice.

Conclusion of the Saucony Ride 17

Overall, I could not recommend this shoe enough. It is an amazing daiy trainer that offers high levels of comfort, speed and stability. I use this shoe for daily training and they never disapoint. The only downside to this shoe is that the upper is not breathable however if it wasn’t for this small issue I could confidently say this is the perfect shoe.
