Saucony Cohesion 17 Review

This is a well cushioned daily trainer that is great for logging miles with a bit of speed. In this Saucony Cohesion 17 review I will go over my experience with this shoe and see how it compares to competitors.

Cushioning

A good level of cushioning is an essential component of a great shoe. A cushioned midsole helps relieve stress from the joints and provides support that makes long distance runs much easier.

Support

Good support is essential for all runners, so it is very important that when buying trainers an individual buys running shoes that have enough support. That may look different for all runners but it is important to consider.

It is important that a supportive running shoe provides a stable platform and reduces the risk of potential injuries.

Durability

I believe that it is important to buy shoes that have been built to last. If you are going to spend your own money on shoes then they should stay in good working condition for many months to come.

Fit

Making sure your shoes fit properly is very important as if a shoe is too big it can cause the shoes to start to rub against you feet causing blisters and other discomforts. By not having a shoe that fits it will also get rid of the possibility of a comfortable run.

Breathability

Breathable materials in the upper part of the shoe helps keep the feet cool and dry during runs. This is because it helps prevent the build up of sweat and moisture in the shoe which reduces discomfort and irritation when running.

A breathable upper shoe enhances comfort and can be a life saver when running in hot days as it helps prevent overheating. This makes shoes with this feature an excellent choice as well as a comfortable fit.

Value

Running shoes can get really expensive and if you are someone that runs a lot you will have to keep coming back to buy more. This can really add up which is why I have added cost to the list of important factors.

Energy Return

There is no better feeling than being propelled by a responsive running shoe. A running shoe should that gives energy back to the runner can make all types of runs feel so much nicer. This category is even more important in race day shoes.

Saucony Cohesion 17 First Impressions

When I first saw these shoes I was happy with the aesthetics of the shoe. I loved the colour scheme and overall design of the shoe. I did occasionally wear this shoe as casual wear because of how much I liked it but anyway onto the performance.

My first run in this trainer was a mid tempo 10km run and I thought they performed very well. The first thing I noticed when putting the shoe on was how comfortable it felt. It ws very well cushioned and felt soft and plush. This made running longer distances very easy and after my 10km run my feet felt fresh and ready to go again. I felt like I could wear these shoes all day and still feel fresh.

The shoe did offer a small amount of speed assistance however it was nothing impressive. So if you are looking for a daily trainer to help you with speed then this isn’t the shoe for you. I would recommend having a look at either the Mizuno Wave Rebellion Flash 2 or the Adidas Supernova Solution.

Transitions in this shoe felt smooth and overall the ride felt very good. I would happily run in these shoes all day.

Why Should You Buy These Shoes?

If you are looking for a highly cushioned daily trainer with a little bit of speed assistance then this shoe is a great choice for you. It offers a smooth ride and is also very durable. So if you want a shoe that will last you a long time this is the model for you. Not to mention that for its price point this shoe is a steal.

Why Should You Not Buy These Shoes?

If you are looking for a very fast daily trainer that will help you pick up the pace then this is not the shoe for you. Although it does offer some speed assistance there are much faster daily trainers on the market such as the ones I mention earlier.

Upper of the shoe

The upper is made from a mesh material which allows for excellent breathability. This was perfect for the middle of summer and meant I could happily run in hot conditions without my feet overheating. The upper also provided good heel lockdown however you do need to use a runners knot in order to really lock your feet down properly. Once I used the knot there was never any issues with my feet slipping out.

Foam of the shoe

The midsole in this shoe has PWRRUN+ foam which is a lightweight and soft foam. This foam offered a great level of comfort for the shoe and helped add a little bit of speed to runs. The midsole was not hugely responsive however it offer enough but if you are someone who likes a lot of bounce to their runs then this will disappoint.

Sole of the shoe

The outsole of this model has improved outsole coverage from any previous version. The outsole has rubber which helps offer excellent traction and durability. I wore this shoe for over 50 miles and it showed almost no signs of wear and tear. The traction meant I felt comfortable going over wet or slippery surfaces and making tight turns.

Conclusion to the Saucony Cohesion 17 review

Overall, this is a high quality daily trainer that is highly cushioned along with having a little bit of speed assistance. For this price point there really is not better trainer. It is durable, comfortable and offers great traction.
