Nike Vaporfly 3 Review: Is This The Perfect Shoe?

Grey Nike running shoe on black backround

In a world filled with super-shoes, the Nike Vaporfly 3 is the best of the best when it comes to race day. The combination of Zoom X foam, a carbon plate and lightweight upper helps create a shoe that is unbeatable for speed.

In this Nike vaporfly 3 review I will be taking you through every detail of one of the best shoes out there.

A good level of cushioning is an essential component of a great shoe. A cushioned midsole helps relieve stress from the joints and provides support that makes long distance runs much easier.

Good support is essential for all runners, so it is very important that when buying trainers an individual buys running shoes that have enough support. That may look different for all runners but it is important to consider.

It is important that a supportive running shoe provides a stable platform and reduces the risk of potential injuries.

I believe that it is important to buy shoes that have been built to last. If you are going to spend your own money on shoes then they should stay in good working condition for many months to come.

Making sure your shoes fit properly is very important as if a shoe is too big it can cause the shoes to start to rub against you feet causing blisters and other discomforts. By not having a shoe that fits it will also get rid of the possibility of a comfortable run.

Breathable materials in the upper part of the shoe helps keep the feet cool and dry during runs. This is because it helps prevent the build up of sweat and moisture in the shoe which reduces discomfort and irritation when running.

A breathable upper shoe enhances comfort and can be a life saver when running in hot days as it helps prevent overheating. This makes shoes with this feature an excellent choice as well as a comfortable fit.

Running shoes can get really expensive and if you are someone that runs a lot you will have to keep coming back to buy more. This can really add up which is why I have added cost to the list of important factor.

Energy Return

There is no better feeling than being propelled by a responsive running shoe. A running shoe should that gives energy back to the runner can make all types of runs feel so much nicer. This category is even more important in race day shoes.

Vaporfly 3 First Impressions

The first time I held the Vaporfly 3 is my hands I was impressed with the small details such as the listed weights of all the components on the outsole and the symbols on the tongue.

My first run in these shoes was a 10km fast paced run and overall, I was very impressed with how comfortable and fast the shoe felt. It also felt much more stable compared to the previous versions.

The ride felt softer and more cushioned than the Vaporfly 2, especially in the forefoot so there was a less prominent forward tipping sensation. I also liked how spacious the shoe felt because of the new upper. Transitions in this model felt much smoother.

I was able to maintain a very fast pace throughout the run without feeling as fatigued. This shoe really is an amazing speed shoe.

Why Should You Buy This Shoe?

If you are in the market for a super shoe that has a very accommodating fit and a super lightweight design then the Vaporfly 3 is an excellent choice for you. It has excellent stability and offers a soft and propulsive ride.

Why Should You Not Buy This Shoe?

If you want a really durable super shoe that you can use for training as well racing then this is not the shoe for you. Its ZoomX foam is extremely soft and delicate.

Upper of the shoe

The upper of the Vaporfly 3 is overall an improvement over the Vaporfly 2. The most noticeable change is how much more spacious the midfoot and forefoot are, so it now fits more like a comfortable trainer than a snug racer.

This model is true to size and runners with wider feet should find it more comfortable than any previous version of the Vaporfly. The Flyknit has larger holes in it which makes it more breathable than any other racing shoe.

The tongue is not gusseted but the laces go through a loop which prevents the tongue from sliding around. The tongue has plenty of padding to help protect the top of your foot from lace bite.

Foam of the shoe

The Vaporfly is much better for longer distances such as marathons. The extra cushioning, lighter weight and stability improvements all add up to create a super shoe package that is hard to beat.

It doesn’t feel as fast as the Vaporfly 2 because of the extra cushioning however I think this exchange is worth it. It’s the lightest super shoe to be released this year yet it is still very soft with a squishy ride and has bouncy cushioning which are provided by the ZoomX foam.

Sole of the shoe

The sole does not offer particularly good traction however these shoes are not meant to be worn on trails or other off road surfaces so this wasn’t an issue for me. If you are in the market for a shoe with good traction I would recommend a different model.

Conclusion To This Nike Vaporfly 3 Review

Overall, this is an amazing shoe for marathons and other fast pace races. It is slightly slower than the previous version however offers much more in terms of comfort and stability which personally I think is a worth while trade.
