New Balance SC Elite V4 Review

New balance have finally entered the competitive supershoe market with their new SuperComp V4. This model has a brand new peba midsole and full length carbon plate. In this New Balance SC Elite V4 review I will go over my own experience with this model and we will see if this supershoe can compete with the rest.

Cushioning

A good level of cushioning is an essential component of a great shoe. A cushioned midsole helps relieve stress from the joints and provides support that makes long distance runs much easier.

Support

Good support is essential for all runners, so it is very important that when buying trainers an individual buys running shoes that have enough support. That may look different for all runners but it is important to consider.

It is important that a supportive running shoe provides a stable platform and reduces the risk of potential injuries.

Durability

I believe that it is important to buy shoes that have been built to last. If you are going to spend your own money on shoes then they should stay in good working condition for many months to come.

Fit

Making sure your shoes fit properly is very important as if a shoe is too big it can cause the shoes to start to rub against you feet causing blisters and other discomforts. By not having a shoe that fits it will also get rid of the possibility of a comfortable run.

Breathability

Breathable materials in the upper part of the shoe helps keep the feet cool and dry during runs. This is because it helps prevent the build up of sweat and moisture in the shoe which reduces discomfort and irritation when running.

A breathable upper shoe enhances comfort and can be a life saver when running in hot days as it helps prevent overheating. This makes shoes with this feature an excellent choice as well as a comfortable fit.

Value

Running shoes can get really expensive and if you are someone that runs a lot you will have to keep coming back to buy more. This can really add up which is why I have added cost to the list of important factor.

Energy Return

There is no better feeling than being propelled by a responsive running shoe. A running shoe should that gives energy back to the runner can make all types of runs feel so much nicer. This category is even more important in race day shoes.

New Balance SC Elite V4 First Impressions

I was very happy with how the shoes felt when I first put them on. They were very soft and plush which offered a very high level of comfort. I was a little concerned for the breathability at first when I saw there were no visible holes in the upper however this shoe was very breathable and offered plenty of airflow.

My first run in these shoes was a fast paced 20km run and I was very happy with how these shoes performed. They were not only the most comfortable supershoes I have ever tested but they were also very responsive and fast which is a very rare combination.

I also liked how much grip the outsole offered in both wet and dry conditions due to the rubber on the outsole. This did increase the weight however I don’t mind as it gives the shoe excellent durability and grip.

Why Should You Buy These Shoes?

If you are in the market for a supershoe that has a plush and cloud like ride then this model will not disappoint. This shoe is perfect for marathons due to its cushioning and comfort. I even used this shoe myself to run the Edinburgh marathon earlier this year and thought it performed very well.

Why Should You Not Buy These Shoes?

If you are looking for a very lightweight supershoe then I would recommend having a look at the AlphaFly 3 or the VaporFly 3.

Upper of the shoe

The upper had no visible holes which immediately struck concern when it comes to breathability however once I started running those concerns went away. There was plenty of airflow and there were no issues. The heel was padded and cushioned which added to the overall comfort of the shoe. There was also very good heel lockdown and I didn’t feel my feet slipping at any point even without the use of a runners knot.

Foam of the shoe

The midsole is made up of Pebax foam which is a light material that offers excellent levels of energy return and responsiveness. The same foam is used in many other supershoe competitors however the midsole in this shoe is softer and offers less speed assistance and more comfort.

Sole of the shoe

This model did have more rubber coverage than other supershoes which explains the weight increase however this rubber does offer excellent traction and durability. Durability is often an issue with supershoes however with this model it will last much longer than any competitors out there. I wore this shoe for over 50 miles and there were little to no signs of wear and tear.

Conclusions to the New Balance SC Elite V4 Review

Overall, this is an amazing supershoe that offers excellent traction, comfort and speed assistance. Before you buy do be aware that in terms on speed alone this shoe does not compare with Vaproflys or Alphaflys. This shoe is more suited to marathons and runners who want a more comfortable and durable supershoe. I could not recommend this shoe enough for marathon runners. I wore this shoe when I did the Edinburgh marathon and it was a complete game changer!
