New Balance Fresh Foam X 1080 V13 Review

Red new balance shoe on white backround

The New Balance Fresh Foam X 1080 V13 is a highly cushioned daily trainer that will feel soft and bouncy on your feet. It’s a great all around shoe that can handle high mileage as well as faster pace runs. I have been lookinmg foward to sharing my thoughts on this shoe for some time so in this New Balance Fresh Foam X 1080 V13 Review I will be taking you through the good and the bad of this amazing shoe.

A good level of cushioning is an essential component of a great shoe. A cushioned midsole helps relieve stress from the joints and provides support that makes long distance runs much easier.

Good support is essential for all runners, so it is very important that when buying trainers an individual buys running shoes that have enough support. That may look different for all runners but it is important to consider.

It is important that a supportive running shoe provides a stable platform and reduces the risk of potential injuries.

I believe that it is important to buy shoes that have been built to last. If you are going to spend your own money on shoes then they should stay in good working condition for many months to come.

Making sure your shoes fit properly is very important as if a shoe is too big it can cause the shoes to start to rub against you feet causing blisters and other discomforts. By not having a shoe that fits it will also get rid of the possibility of a comfortable run.

Breathable materials in the upper part of the shoe helps keep the feet cool and dry during runs. This is because it helps prevent the build up of sweat and moisture in the shoe which reduces discomfort and irritation when running.

A breathable upper shoe enhances comfort and can be a life saver when running in hot days as it helps prevent overheating. This makes shoes with this feature an excellent choice as well as a comfortable fit.

Running shoes can get really expensive and if you are someone that runs a lot you will have to keep coming back to buy more. This can really add up which is why I have added cost to the list of important factor.

Energy Return

There is no better feeling than being propelled by a responsive running shoe. A running shoe should that gives energy back to the runner can make all types of runs feel so much nicer. This category is even more important in race day shoes.

New Balance Fresh Foam X 1080 V13 First Impressions

When I first took these shoes out of the box, I was shocked at how light they felt in my hands even though there was a very thick midsole.

When I first put them on, it honestly felt as if I was walking on clouds. My first run in these shoes was a medium pace 10km run where they performed very well. They not only felt very comfortable but they also offered a good amount of speed assistance when I wanted to step up the pace. They were very bouncy and I felt like I was gliding at points during the run.

This model handles high mileage with ease and can also be used for a recovery shoe due to its softness. I used this shoe a lot for recovery runs and they really do work better than any other model out there.

Why Should You Buy The Shoe

This is a shoe for just about any runner due to how versatile they are. If you are in the market for a daily trainer that can be used for just about any activity then this is an excellent choice for you as this shoe does it all.

Why Should You Not Buy The Shoe

The only downside to this shoe is that it does not offer a lot of stability. So if you are in the market for something with a good level of stability then I would look at either Asics Kayano 30 or the Altra Via Olympus .

Upper of the shoe

The construction of the upper is really good and is one of my favourite parts. The tongue and heel collar feel very soft which adds to the very high comfort of the shoe. I also had no issues with blisters or hot spots. The tongue is gusseted and the heel collar is padded.

The laces near came undone when tied in a single so there is no need for a runners knot. The upper is made up of a soft knit mesh that is very breathable and can handle some the cooler air.

This shoe for me fit true to size so there is also no need to go a half size up. There was plenty of room in the toe box and forefoot and the shoe felt snug but did not suffocate my foot.

Foam of the shoe

The midsole of the New Balance Fresh Foam X 1080 V13 is made up of Fresh Foam X technology. This is much thicker midsole than the V12. The heel drop in the V12 was 8mm compared to this models 6mm.

The benefits of this foam is that it is much lighter as well as being more responsive. You can really feel this weight drop when running.

There is a rocker technology in this shoe that makes the forefoot slightly stiffer which increases the speed assistance and responsiveness. Transitions in this trainer were very efficient and it was very noticeable during runs.

Sole of the shoe

The outsole of the shoe was very durable which is one thing that is very important for a daily trainer. The outsole also provided excellent grip in both wet and dry conditions so you don’t have to worry about slipping or anything else of such.

Conclusion to this New Balance Fresh Foam X 1080 V13 Review

Overall, this is one of my favourite daily trainers that I have tried so far. The cushioning, speed assistance and durability are all amazing and there is nothing that I would change about this shoe. When it comes to the perfect running shoe, this model is as close to perfect as it gets.
