Mizuno Wave Rider 28 Review

White and blue mizuno running shoes on white backround

There are a few daily trainers that I review each year that make me go wow and the mizuno wave rider 28 is one of them. It is the flagship daily trainer of mizuno and in the latest version they have taken the shoe to new heights. I have logged over 100km in this shoe and I am very excited to share my thoughts.

In this Mizuno Wave Rider 28 Review I will be taking you through the good and the bad of one of the most iconic daily trainers in the running world.

Cushioning

A good level of cushioning is an essential component of a great shoe. A cushioned midsole helps relieve stress from the joints and provides support that makes long distance runs much easier.

Support

Good support is essential for all runners, so it is very important that when buying trainers an individual buys running shoes that have enough support. That may look different for all runners but it is important to consider.

It is important that a supportive running shoe provides a stable platform and reduces the risk of potential injuries.

Durability

I believe that it is important to buy shoes that have been built to last. If you are going to spend your own money on shoes then they should stay in good working condition for many months to come.

Fit

Making sure your shoes fit properly is very important as if a shoe is too big it can cause the shoes to start to rub against you feet causing blisters and other discomforts. By not having a shoe that fits it will also get rid of the possibility of a comfortable run.

Breathability

Breathable materials in the upper part of the shoe helps keep the feet cool and dry during runs. This is because it helps prevent the build up of sweat and moisture in the shoe which reduces discomfort and irritation when running.

A breathable upper shoe enhances comfort and can be a life saver when running in hot days as it helps prevent overheating. This makes shoes with this feature an excellent choice as well as a comfortable fit.

Value

Running shoes can get really expensive and if you are someone that runs a lot you will have to keep coming back to buy more. This can really add up which is why I have added cost to the list of important factor.

Energy Return

There is no better feeling than being propelled by a responsive running shoe. A running shoe should that gives energy back to the runner can make all types of runs feel so much nicer. This category is even more important in race day shoes.

My First Impressions of the shoe

When I first put these shoes on my feet I was blown away by how comfortable they felt. The foam felt very bouncy and the upper did a great job of hugging my foot which as I suspected kept my foot in the right place when I was running.

For my first run in these shoes I took them out on a sunday long run and I was really impressed. All my previous points about comfort and support held true while I was actually running.

Why you should buy the shoe

If you are looking for a top of the range daily trainer that can provide unparalled comfort and energy return then look no further than the mizuno wave rider 28. It doesn’t really get any better than this when it comes to premium daily trainers.

Why you should not buy the shoe

I think one obvious downside to this shoe is the high price tag. Spending £180 on a daily trainer might not be possable for everyone and you can get some amazing shoes for half the price.

Upper of the shoe

As I have previously mentioned the upper of this shoe provides some unrivelled support and breathability. I am yet to find a shoe that can match this quality of upper. I am really impressed and I really strugled to fault this part of the shoe.

Foam of the shoe

The foam on this shoe has some amazing bounce and the lightweight nature of the shoe allowed me to run seriously fast. This foam was truly impressive and it made me regret not buying this shoe earlier.

Sole of the shoe

From the sole of a running shoe I always look for traction, durability and lightweight fetures. On this sole I got all three and it might just be the perfect sole to this shoe.

Conclusions to this Mizuno Wave Rider 28 Review

I know that I have been very complimentry of this shoe throught this review but when you are spending this much money on a pair of shoes anything that isn’t excellence is not accpetable. I had some high expectastions of this shoe and it delivered very nicely.
