Mizuno Wave Rebellion Pro Review

The Mizuno Wave Rebellion Pro is a super shoe with a unique heel cut-off and a rocker toe spring. It is one of the most unique super shoes out there and when it comes to races it really delivers. Although it comes at a prioce this shoe has thw power to shatter your PB.

In this Mizuno Wave Rebellion Pro Review I will be taking you through every detail of this game changing super shoe.

Cushioning

A good level of cushioning is an essential component of a great shoe. A cushioned midsole helps relieve stress from the joints and provides support that makes long distance runs much easier.

Support

Good support is essential for all runners, so it is very important that when buying trainers an individual buys running shoes that have enough support. That may look different for all runners but it is important to consider.

It is important that a supportive running shoe provides a stable platform and reduces the risk of potential injuries.

Durability

I believe that it is important to buy shoes that have been built to last. If you are going to spend your own money on shoes then they should stay in good working condition for many months to come.

Fit

Making sure your shoes fit properly is very important as if a shoe is too big it can cause the shoes to start to rub against you feet causing blisters and other discomforts. By not having a shoe that fits it will also get rid of the possibility of a comfortable run.

Breathability

Breathable materials in the upper part of the shoe helps keep the feet cool and dry during runs. This is because it helps prevent the build up of sweat and moisture in the shoe which reduces discomfort and irritation when running.

A breathable upper shoe enhances comfort and can be a life saver when running in hot days as it helps prevent overheating. This makes shoes with this feature an excellent choice as well as a comfortable fit.

Value

Running shoes can get really expensive and if you are someone that runs a lot you will have to keep coming back to buy more. This can really add up which is why I have added cost to the list of important factor.

Energy Return

There is no better feeling than being propelled by a responsive running shoe. A running shoe should that gives energy back to the runner can make all types of runs feel so much nicer. This catagory is even more important in race day shoes.

Mizuno Wave Rebellion Pro First Impressions

The first time I saw this shoe I was impressed by how aesthetically pleasing it looked. The midsole design along with the cut off heel looked like nothing I had ever seen before. After seeing them I was very curious to see how they performed.

My first run was a fast pace 10km run and I was very impressed with the level of speed assistance that they offered. They not only felt very energetic but they were also very comfy. This is something that is rare in speed shoes as often they neglect comfort to maximise speed however this model is perfectly balanced where it is fast however is also very cushioned and comfortable.

This shoe reminded me of the Adidas Prime because of how tall and unstable the midsole felt, however this shoe felt more flexible and transitions felt more neutral which I really liked.

I also decided to run my Edinburgh half marathon in them. During the race, it felt efficient and aggressive, however towards the end of the run I felt the pressure on my ankles because of the midsole so I would recommend using them for shorter distances.

Why Should You Buy The shoe

If you’re a neutral runner with good form then this model will be a good option for you. It has efficient transitions and is very soft, cushioned ride which will also offer high levels of speed assistance.

Why Should You Not Buy The shoe

If you are a runner that needs stability or wants a lot of ground feel then this model will not be the best option for you. If you also want a durable super shoe that will last a long time then this model isn’t for you.

Upper of the shoe

The upper of the Mizuno Wave Rebellion Pro is made up of a thin lightweight mesh material which I found similar to an old school racing flat. There is a flat un gusseted tongue which has sides that are so thin they curl. This does make putting the shoe on frustrating as you need to hold onto both sides in order to avoid crushing the sides.

There is no heel counter however the collar offers lots of padding and I had no heel slippage when using a runners knot. For me the upper runs true to size but does have a narrow forefoot and toe box so if you are someone who has a wider front foot then I would recommend going half a size up.

Foam of the shoe

The Mizuno Wave Rebellion Pro is designed to be a fast, long distance super shoe. The aggressive geometry of the shoe rolls you quickly forward from the rear for the shoe to the toe. It is not a spring board as such however the shoe does offer smooth and efficient transitions which helps maximise speed.

This model is very highly cushioned which is rare in a super shoe. This cushioning does reduce the speed of the shoe slightly however it also means that it is perfect for longer distances such as marathons. It also means that the shoe is more comfortable which is a big selling point as a common issue with racing shoes is their comfort.

There are 2 different foams in this shoe: Firmer energy lite at the bottom and softer energy lite pro at the top. The 2 foams work together to give the shoe a cushioned and soft ride. This combination of soft and firm foam helps keep a balance between speed and comfort.

Sole of the shoe

The grip of the Mizuno Wave Rebellion Pro is one of its strongest features. The outsole has small, sharp lugs that really bite into the ground and you can hear them dig into the tar. It has the best grip of any shoe I have ever tried.

The wave plate in the Mizuno Wave Rebellion Pro is the Rebellion Pro which is made up of carbon infused nylon. This plate isn’t as stiff as other carbon plated racing shoes. This plate also has a forefoot cut out as well a honeycomb structure in the midsole which increases propulsion.

Conclusion to this Mizuno Wave Rebellion Pro Review

Overall, I would highly recommend this model for marathon runners along with runners that want a mix between fast pace running and comfort. Just be aware that there are faster shoes on the market so if your sole focus is speed then I would recommend going elsewhere.

I personally use these shoes when doing marathon runs and could not recommend them enough to other long distance runners.
