Brooks Hyperion 2 GTS Review

Orange and grey brooks running shoe on white background

The Brooks Hyperion GTS was one of my favourite shoes so I was very excited to try the second model and it didn’t disapoint. The original was light, fast and mild stability whereas this new model is faster, lighter and offers even more stability! In this Brooks Hyperion 2 GTS review I will go over my experience with this and we will find out how it compares to its competition.

Cushioning

A good level of cushioning is an essential component of a great shoe. A cushioned midsole helps relieve stress from the joints and provides support that makes long distance runs much easier.

Support

Good support is essential for all runners, so it is very important that when buying trainers an individual buys running shoes that have enough support. That may look different for all runners but it is important to consider.

It is important that a supportive running shoe provides a stable platform and reduces the risk of potential injuries.

Durability

I believe that it is important to buy shoes that have been built to last. If you are going to spend your own money on shoes then they should stay in good working condition for many months to come.

Fit

Making sure your shoes fit properly is very important as if a shoe is too big it can cause the shoes to start to rub against you feet causing blisters and other discomforts. By not having a shoe that fits it will also get rid of the possibility of a comfortable run.

Breathability

Breathable materials in the upper part of the shoe helps keep the feet cool and dry during runs. This is because it helps prevent the build up of sweat and moisture in the shoe which reduces discomfort and irritation when running.

A breathable upper shoe enhances comfort and can be a life saver when running in hot days as it helps prevent overheating. This makes shoes with this feature an excellent choice as well as a comfortable fit.

Value

Running shoes can get really expensive and if you are someone that runs a lot you will have to keep coming back to buy more. This can really add up which is why I have added cost to the list of important factor.

Energy Return

There is no better feeling than being propelled by a responsive running shoe. A running shoe should that gives energy back to the runner can make all types of runs feel so much nicer. This category is even more important in race day shoes.

Brooks Hyperion 2 GTS First Impressions

When I first ordered these shoes I had very high expectations as I loved the original model. It was everything you could of ever wanted of a road shoe.

When this shoe first arrived, I was very happy with the aesthetics of the shoe right off the bat. I loved the colourscheme and it was a very aesthetic shoe so much so I even wore it as casual wear a few times.

My first time in these shoes was a 10km mid tempo run and they did not disapoint. They felt much faster than the previous version. I could feel myself being propelled along the road when running so if you are a runner who prioritises speed then this is a great choice.

I also loved how comfortable this model was. The shoe was well cushioned and I felt as though I could wear them all day and still feel fresh. The upper was also very breathable which made running in the hot summer much more manageable.

Why Should You Buy This Shoe?

If you are in the market for a fast road shoe that offers high levels of comfort and speed then this shoe will not disapoint. I personally use this shoe daily training and absolutely love it. I truly believe there is no better daily training shoe on the market.

Why Should You Not Buy This Shoe?

If you are looking for a shoe to do slow tempo or recovery runs in then I would recommend looking at the On Cloudeslipse or the Asics Novablast 4.

Upper of the shoe

The upper of this model is made from a thin knit material that offers excellent breathability and helps keep the weight of the shoe down. I also loved the fit of the upper. It felt like a glove on my foot and disapeared when I started running.

This also provided excellent heel lockdown without the need for a runners knot which also helps avooid blisters and other irriations that a rubbing shoe can cause.

Foam of the shoe

The midsole was one of my favourite features of the shoe. They have found the perfect combination of speed assistance and comfort which is very rare to get right when it comes to running shoes.

The midsole is made up of DNA flash V2 cushioning which is softer, lighter and more respionsive than V1. This shoe really is everything the original is and more but without the issues.

Sole of the shoe

The outsole offered plenty of traction and I tested this in both wet and dry conditions. They proved to be excellent in both! This traction also allowed me to make sharp turns in them with no worry about slipping.

The outsole was also very durable and showed little to no signs of wear and tear after 50+ miles of use.

Conclusion to the Brooks Hyperion 2 GTS Review

Overall, this is my new favourtie road shoe for daily training. I love how fast, responsive and comfortable they are. If I had one thing I would change it would be to make it just a little bit lighter however that is only thing I can critique about this model. This is as close to a perfect running shoe as it gets.
