Brooks Glycerin 20 Review

The Brooks Glycerin 20 is a versatile neutral running shoe that can be used for runners of all sizes and abilities. I have been testing this shoe for many months now and I have to say that it is now my all time favourite daily trainer! I am being serious this shoe is amazing.

In this Brooks Glycerin 20 Review I wil be taking you through the good and the bad of my favourite daily trainer.

A good level of cushioning is an essential component of a great shoe. A cushioned midsole helps relieve stress from the joints and provides support that makes long distance runs much easier.

Good support is essential for all runners, so it is very important that when buying trainers an individual buys running shoes that have enough support. That may look different for all runners but it is important to consider.

It is important that a supportive running shoe provides a stable platform and reduces the risk of potential injuries.

I believe that it is important to buy shoes that have been built to last. If you are going to spend your own money on shoes then they should stay in good working condition for many months to come.

Making sure your shoes fit properly is very important as if a shoe is too big it can cause the shoes to start to rub against you feet causing blisters and other discomforts. By not having a shoe that fits it will also get rid of the possibility of a comfortable run.

Breathable materials in the upper part of the shoe helps keep the feet cool and dry during runs. This is because it helps prevent the build up of sweat and moisture in the shoe which reduces discomfort and irritation when running.

A breathable upper shoe enhances comfort and can be a life saver when running in hot days as it helps prevent overheating. This makes shoes with this feature an excellent choice as well as a comfortable fit.

Running shoes can get really expensive and if you are someone that runs a lot you will have to keep coming back to buy more. This can really add up which is why I have added cost to the list of important factor.

Energy Return

There is no better feeling than being propelled by a responsive running shoe. A running shoe should that gives energy back to the runner can make all types of runs feel so much nicer. This category is even more important in race day shoes.

Brooks Glycerin 20 First Impressions

I was very excited for this shoe as I love the Glycerine series however when I first saw this model I was a little disappointed by the aesthetics of the shoe. The shoe was not ugly by any means however it didn’t have the same visual appeal that predecessors have had.

This disappoint very quickly went away when I put the shoes on for the first time. They were so comfortable while still remaining firm to offer speed assistance. This shoe has managed to get the perfect combination of comfort and speed which is very rare with running shoes.

My first run was a 10km run and at the end my feet felt fresh due to the cushioning of the shoe. You could wear these shoes all day and still feel fresh and comfortable. This is why this model is amazing at long distances.

Why Should You Buy The Shoe

This shoe is perfect for any neutral runner. It is best suited for long distances however is very versatile and can be used for many different activities.

Why Should You Not Buy The shoe

If you are a runner who needs high levels of support from your shoes then this is not a good option for you. If you are also looking for a lightweight shoe then this is not for you as this model can feel clunky and heavy.

Upper of the shoe

The upper of this model is very basic. It offers no stand out qualities however it will get the job done. The upper uses engineered mesh to help keep the shoe breathable while also allowing for comfort and flexibility.

Brooks uses an Ortholite sock liner that ensures that the fit is soft and snug no matter the thickness of socks. The fit of the upper is true to size and felt comfortable on all part of the foot. This model also offered excellent heel lockdown which is very important when running. I didn’t feel that my heel was slipping at any point, without doing anything with the laces.

The midfoot felt very wide and almost as if your not locked in however don’t worry as the overlays keep the foot secure. The toe box in spacious while not being too roomy and leaves enough room for your toes to wiggle.

Foam of the shoe

The midsole uses a new nitrogen-infused DNA foam that offers a lot of cushioning and bounce. This foam is put out across the entire midsole and offers a comfortable ride paired with an energy filled toe off.

Under the midsole there are flex grooves used to help the sole bend which also helps with transitions and toe offs. This foam also provides the shoe with comfort and high levels of energy return which helps you keep a fast pace.

Sole of the shoe

The Sole unit is where this shoe shines. It is not visually amazing however the underfoot feeling it offers is very impressive. The heel stands at 38mm and has a 10mm toe drop which is very standard for this kind of shoe.

The outsole of the shoe is covered in a very grippy rubber which will leave you confident on any surface without the fear of slipping. This rubber also offers a high level of durability, so if you are wanting a shoe that will last a long time without signs of wear and tear then this would be a good purchase.

Conclusion to this Brooks Glycerin 20 Review

Overall, I would highly recommend this shoe for long distance running and daily training. It offers a very comfortable feel which means your feet will feel fresh even if you have been wearing them all day. The high level of shock absorption will help prevent repetitive stress injuries such as stress fractures which is a very common injury for runners.

This version is definitely my favourite out of the series so far, if only it looked as good as the performance is.
