Best Cheap Running Shoes To Buy in 2024

Running shoes are great but they are also incredibly expensive. With some of the top of range running shoes of today selling for well over £200. This is a lot of money especially as running shoes only have a short lifespan. That is exactly why I have decided to write a blogpost on the best cheap running shoes on the market.

For a bit of clarification for the purposes of this blogpost I will be defining cheap running shoes as anything that is currently selling for under £110.

I will be taking you through our extensive review process as well as the eleven best cheap running shoe to purchase right now.

The shoe on this list have been chosen based on the following factors

A good level of cushioning is an essential component of a great shoe. A cushioned midsole helps relieve stress from the joints and provides support that makes long distance runs much easier.

Good support is essential for all runners, so it is very important that when buying trainers an individual buys running shoes that have enough support. That may look different for all runners but it is important to consider.

It is important that a supportive running shoe provides a stable platform and reduces the risk of potential injuries.

I believe that it is important to buy shoes that have been built to last. If you are going to spend your own money on shoes then they should stay in good working condition for many months to come.

Making sure your shoes fit properly is very important as if a shoe is too big it can cause the shoes to start to rub against you feet causing blisters and other discomforts. By not having a shoe that fits it will also get rid of the possibility of a comfortable run.

Breathable materials in the upper part of the shoe helps keep the feet cool and dry during runs. This is because it helps prevent the build up of sweat and moisture in the shoe which reduces discomfort and irritation when running.

A breathable upper shoe enhances comfort and can be a life saver when running in hot days as it helps prevent overheating. This makes shoes with this feature an excellent choice as well as a comfortable fit.

Running shoes can get really expensive and if you are someone that runs a lot you will have to keep coming back to buy more. This can really add up which is why I have added cost to the list of important factors.

We have extensively tested each and every shoe

The team at has put a lot of time and money into testing every single shoe featured in this list. Each shoes has been pushed to the limit. It is my firm belief that shoes should only be recommended if they have been purchased first. That is why we do the following to every shoe.

  • Run in each shoe for at least 30-50 miles
  • Measure each part and parameter.
  • Rate it using out multi point methodology

So what are the eleven best cheap running shoes

Adidas Duramo 10

Black Adidas shoes on white background

Price: Less than £40

Stack height: 30mm

Weight: 279 grams

Usage: Daily trainer

  • Lightweight
  • Supportive
  • Clean style

  • The upper mesh wore away after about 80km

In my opinion these are one of the best cheap running shoes on the market. It is a neutral running that provides some good energy return along side a nice amount of support.

Another thing that stood out upon testing was how lightweight these shoes were. The shoe was very versatile with an amazing ability to handle some light speed workouts as well as staying strong upon the easy long runs. The upper was breathable and allowed the perfect amount of stretch when it came to the very toughest parts of my runs. There was a lovely mesh upper that catered very well to my specific needs.

I would say that the best thing about the best thins about these shoes is the fact that they are an absolute all rounder. It is a decent pair of shoes that ticks almost every box when it comes to our extensive review process.

Adidas Alphabounce+

Blue and red addidas shoes on white backround

Price: £50

Stack Height: 37.7mm

Weight: 250 grams

Usage: Daily trainer

  • Good Energy Return
  • One of the best on the market
  • Lots of grip

  • Poor levels of breathability

Once again Adidas has pulled a blinder when it comes to high quality budget friendly running shoes. What really stands out here is the world class impact protection. I have run in some very expensive shoes and almost all of them are put to shame when it comes to impact protection.

Aside from their world class shock absorption this shoe performs amazingly well in the categories of grip and bounce. I have to give credit where credit is due.

Even though it is a good overall shoe I think there are some areas that really let it down. One such area was the the weight and the weight. It was tipping the scales at a very heavy 72 grams. As well as the weight the breathability of the upper mesh was not great.

Saucony Axon 3

Light purple sacony trainers on a white backround

Price: £100

Stack Height: 31mm

Weight: 241 grams

Usage: Daily trainer

I think that this shoe is simply amazing. It has a breathable mesh upper, soft cushioning and is a great option for neutral runners who value responsive cushioning at a good price. I am sure that the cushioning is the reason behind the springy feel that I felt as I ran in these shoes.

I tried this shoe at a variety of paces and it performed remarkably well at almost every distance. The excellent traction made it suitable for uneven terrain as well as pavements.

In terms of some slight issues with this shoe I would have to point to the stiffens which made some of my relaxed runs feel less relaxed. On the whole this shoe gave a very comfortable ride.

ASICS GT 1000 12

Black and white Asics shoes on white backround

Price: £80

Stack Height: 30mm

Weight: 269 grams

Usage: Daily trainer

  • Stable ride
  • Lasts for a long time
  • good breathability

  • Lacing system
  • Lack of energy return

I know the name sounds like a bit of a handful but the actual shoes are very good. As someone who has issues with flat feet this shoe came as a breath of fresh air. The shoes were supportive and the Asics gel technology in the heal made for a very smooth ride.

The outsole were very durable but the mesh in the upper of the shoe let me down slightly. It just lacked durability which made the shoe feel very slightly unstable when it came to tight corners.

Aside from some very small negatives this shoe was genuinely amazing and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for an excellent value shoe with some nice arch support.

Brooks Revel 6

Large brooks shoes on white backround

Price: £110

Stack Height: 32.9mm

Weight: 261 grams

Usage: Daily Trainer

  • Good weight
  • Good breathability
  • Good value for money

  • Lacks Traction
  • Not good for long runs

The Brooks reveal 6 shoes made me feel light and fast. That is probably because these shoes are some of the lightest daily trainers at their price point. It is a good shoe for those up tempo runs on flat even ground. I say this because it is a great shoe but the grip did not perform on wet or muddy surfaces.

This shoe had some very stretchy mesh that was also refreshingly breathable which came in clutch on those hot days. There enough room in the toe box and one the whole it was just a very solid shoe that offers understated style and a bouncy and calm ride.

Nike air zoom structure 23

Pink, black and white Nike shoes on white backround

Price: £89

Weight: 289 Grams

Stack height: 22mm

Usage: Daily trainer

  • Comfortable ride
  • Amazing for long runs
  • Good breathability

  • Poor Grip
  • Not great for speed workouts

For the price tag these shoes are amazing. This shoe would be my all time top pick when it came to good quality shoes that are perfect for easy and long runs. It is somewhere between a stability shoe and a neutral shoe with the key features being good stability and luxuriously soft heal.

I know it is one of the older models on the Air zoom structures range but it is still an amazing choice. What I found really nice was the soft heal paired with the stiff and ultra responsive mid foot foam and air pocket.

The upper offers excellent breathability and the lower price makes it a good choice for those on a budget or if you are a beginner runner.

Nike Downshifter

Black and white Nike shoes on white background

Price: £65

Weight: 283 grams

Stack height: 31.7mm

Usage: Daily trainer

  • Great value for money
  • Good style
  • Continues to perfrom even after extensive usage

  • Not very felxable
  • Not any imporvement from the pervioy version

The Nike downshifter running shoes are a versatile choice. They can double up as day wear but they can also handle a lot of easy miles without any issues. One thing that stood out on testing was the exceptional cushioning which made for a very pleasant ride.

These shoes are more durable that your average trainer and the versatility that they provide is also a good thing.

One area where I would say they could improve would be the level of energy return that comes from the foam. The shoe is also quite heavy coming in at hefty 300 grams for some sizes.

On the whole though I really liked this shoe and I would recommend if to anyone who values a secure fit. It is definitely one off the best cheap running shoes.

Asics gel venture 9

Black shoes on white background

Price: £90

Weight: 316 grams

Stack height: 33.1mm

Usage: Dailty trainer

  • Stable ride
  • Good for heal strikers
  • Enough foam to reduce the imapct

  • Narrow toebox
  • Lack energy return
  • Heavy

Just like the previous shoe this has a durable rubber outsole which means it will stay strong even after lots of miles. I wouldn’t say that there is anything remarkable about this shoe. It is good value and is a good quality option for runners who want to use their shoes for other things.

One slight criticism I have for this shoe is just the weight. It is heavy and the energy return is not great.

Having said that it is just a solid option for someone who wants a good shoe that lasts a long time. For these reasons I think it is safe to say that the Asics gel venture 9 has earned its spot on the list of the best cheap running shoes.

Nike Air zoom Pegasus 40

Nike Zoom Pegasus shoes on white background

Stack height: 33mm

Weight: 266 grams

Usage: Daily trainer

  • Stable ride
  • Good upper comfort
  • Highly durable outsole

  • Sloppy outsole
  • Weight increase
  • No energy return

The Nike zoom Pegasus range has become synonymise with being the daily trainer of choice for both the masses and the elite runners. That is no coincidence! This shoe is everything you would want in a neutral daily trainer.

The shoe is durable with a nice level of support as well as coming in at a very reasonable price point.

The legendary Nike air technology is present in this shoe where it boasts two air pockets which contribute to the smooth ride that this shoe provides.

New balance fresh foam x 1080 V12

Price: £110

Weight: 292 grams

Stack height: 34mm

Usage: Daily usage

  • Very well made
  • Very breathable upper
  • Very little wear after 80km

  • A but heavier than the previous version
  • Not as bouncy as the previous version

After having to type out that name I do sometimes wander why running shoe companies can’t just make the names of their shoes a bit shorter.

Aside from the name this is actually a very solid option when it comes to a versatile daily trainer. The fresh foam provided a nice comfortable ride for easy and long runs but when it becomes time to perform this shoe can accelerate to some quite nice speeds.

Asics gel cumulus 24

White and black Nike shoes on white backround

Price: £77

Weight: 278 grams

Stack height: 33.5mm

Usage: Daily trainer

  • Eco friendly upper
  • durable
  • Comfortable ride

  • Not for slim feet
  • Not very breathable

I am a big fan of the Asics gel cumulus range and I am aware that this is not the latest version of the shoe. I think that it is always more cost effective to buy the older version of the shoe as that means it will be much cheaper.

In terms of the actual shoe it is a neutral daily trainer that provides a very soft and comfortable ride. Along side this nice ride it can also perform well in some tempo runs but anything beyond that and it starts to fade.

Kiprun KD 900x

Decathlon own brand shoes on white background

Price: £130

Weight: 224 grams

Stack height: 39mm

Usage: Race day super shoe

  • Cheapest carbon shoe in the world
  • Good energy return
  • Stable ride

  • Not as Fast as competetors
  • Not great for long distances

I know this shoe exceed the limit but It is the best value racing shoe on the market. Upon it’s release it was hailed as a step forward for reducing the price of carbon plated shoes and since then it has not disappointed.

The ride is snappy and the shoes feel very light and fast. I was a big fan and I might even consider using these in a race over my usual Nike super shoes.

The shoes are amazing and I would definitely recommend these to anyone who is looking for a great value race day shoe.

To conclude, getting great shoes to serve each and every one of your running needs is not just possible but easy in today current climate.
