Altra Escalante 4 Review: What A Great Shoe!

Black and white Altra running shoe on white backround

There are few trainer out there which can provide such an amazing balance between ground feel and comfort. One of those few trainers is the Altra Escelante 4 and when I was testing this shoe I knew that I was in for a big treat.

In this Altra Escalante 4 Review I will be taking you through every detail of the shoe that changed the way I look at running shoes.

Cushioning

A good level of cushioning is an essential component of a great shoe. A cushioned midsole helps relieve stress from the joints and provides support that makes long distance runs much easier.

Support

Good support is essential for all runners, so it is very important that when buying trainers an individual buys running shoes that have enough support. That may look different for all runners but it is important to consider.

It is important that a supportive running shoe provides a stable platform and reduces the risk of potential injuries.

Durability

I believe that it is important to buy shoes that have been built to last. If you are going to spend your own money on shoes then they should stay in good working condition for many months to come.

Fit

Making sure your shoes fit properly is very important as if a shoe is too big it can cause the shoes to start to rub against you feet causing blisters and other discomforts. By not having a shoe that fits it will also get rid of the possibility of a comfortable run.

Breathability

Breathable materials in the upper part of the shoe helps keep the feet cool and dry during runs. This is because it helps prevent the build up of sweat and moisture in the shoe which reduces discomfort and irritation when running.

A breathable upper shoe enhances comfort and can be a life saver when running in hot days as it helps prevent overheating. This makes shoes with this feature an excellent choice as well as a comfortable fit.

Value

Running shoes can get really expensive and if you are someone that runs a lot you will have to keep coming back to buy more. This can really add up which is why I have added cost to the list of important factor.

Energy Return

There is no better feeling than being propelled by a responsive running shoe. A running shoe should that gives energy back to the runner can make all types of runs feel so much nicer. This category is even more important in race day shoes.

My First Impressions of the shoe

When I firt put these shoes on my feet I was blown away by the combination of ground feel and comfort. I was really excited to take these shoes out for a spin so for a first run I took these out for an 8km easy run. I was seriously impressed by the support I was recieving from the upper and right from the get go I could feel how these shoes allowed to to have a natural stride.

Why you should buy this shoe

If you are looking for a decently priced shoe that will allow you to have a natural stride then look no further than the altra escelante 4. I tested the previous version of this shoe just a few months ago and I have to say that the extra cushioning is defiinintly a plus.

Upper of the shoe

One area where this shoe did disapoint me slightly was the lack of breathability in the upper. This did cause some discomfort but aside from that the upper was supportive and well made. In the durability department this shoe also perfroms very well.

Foam of the shoe

The foam on this shoe was quite minamul but it did provide a nice bit of energy return while staying true to Altras roots as a compnay which values ground feel and the promotion of a natural stride pattern. That being said the energy return would not rivel other more cushioned daily trainers.

Sole of the shoe

The sole of this shoe was rock hard, very lightweight and had some of the best durability out there. Even after I had logged over 100km in these shoes the sole showed no sign of wear and tear. To top this all off the traction was also sublime.

Conclusions to this Altra Escalante 4 Review

This is an amazing shoe that comes very close to being perfect. I think that it is definitly one of the most iunique running shoes I have reviewed in recent times and I really recomend that you give this shoe a try.
