Adidas Adizero SL 2 Review

The Adidas Adizero SL 2 is a high quality daily trainer at an affordable price point. This model is fast, comfortable and durable. In this Adidas Adizero SL 2 review I will go over my experience with this shoe and see how it compares to its competitors.

Cushioning

A good level of cushioning is an essential component of a great shoe. A cushioned midsole helps relieve stress from the joints and provides support that makes long distance runs much easier.

Support

Good support is essential for all runners, so it is very important that when buying trainers an individual buys running shoes that have enough support. That may look different for all runners but it is important to consider.

It is important that a supportive running shoe provides a stable platform and reduces the risk of potential injuries.

Durability

I believe that it is important to buy shoes that have been built to last. If you are going to spend your own money on shoes then they should stay in good working condition for many months to come.

Fit

Making sure your shoes fit properly is very important as if a shoe is too big it can cause the shoes to start to rub against you feet causing blisters and other discomforts. By not having a shoe that fits it will also get rid of the possibility of a comfortable run.

Breathability

Breathable materials in the upper part of the shoe helps keep the feet cool and dry during runs. This is because it helps prevent the build up of sweat and moisture in the shoe which reduces discomfort and irritation when running.

A breathable upper shoe enhances comfort and can be a life saver when running in hot days as it helps prevent overheating. This makes shoes with this feature an excellent choice as well as a comfortable fit.

Value

Running shoes can get really expensive and if you are someone that runs a lot you will have to keep coming back to buy more. This can really add up which is why I have added cost to the list of important factors.

Energy Return

There is no better feeling than being propelled by a responsive running shoe. A running shoe should that gives energy back to the runner can make all types of runs feel so much nicer. This category is even more important in race day shoes.

Adidas Adizero SL 2 First Impressions

When I first saw this shoe I was very happy with the aesthetics. The shoe had the signature Adidas stripes with the black background and I thought it looked very cool. I liked the look of this shoe so much so I also used it as casual wear. Anyways onto its performance.

When I first put this shoe on I was impressed with how comfortable it felt. The upper was soft and plush along with the midsole. Even though it was soft it still offered good speed assistance which is a rare combination.

My first run in these trainers was a mid tempo 15km run to see how these shoes dealt with slightly longer distances and I am happy to say the exceeded all expectations. My feet still felt fresh at the end of the run as if they were ready to do the same again. Throughout the run the shoes also offered good speed assistance and felt bouncy.

Transitions were smooth and the overall ride felt very good. There was also good breathability throughout the whole shoe and my feet didn’t overheat ay any point even on the hottest of summer days.

Why Should You Buy These Shoes?

If you are in the market for a soft, comfortable daily trainer that also provides excellent speed assistance then this shoe will offer just that. It is also very durable. I wore this shoe for over 50 miles and there was very little signs of wear and tear.

Why Should You Not Buy These Shoes?

If you are looking for a daily trainer that is either very cushioned or very fast then this shoe will disappoint. This model has a good combination of both however does not excel in either so if you are looking for a shoe to maximise speed then I would recommend the Mizuno Wave Rebellion Flash 2 or if you are looking for a highly cushioned daily trainer then I would recommend the New Balance Fuelcell Rebel V4.

Upper of the shoe

This shoe has a traditional engineered mesh upper. The material of this shoe is on the thicker side and is very soft and plush which really added to the comfort of the shoe. Even though the material is thicker the breathability is still very good.

The tongue is very plush and this feeling continues all the way down to the heel. The fit is on the more snug side which means that runners with wider feet may want to go a half size up as this is what I did. The shoe felt like a glove on my foot and disappeared when I started running which was a feature that I really liked.

Foam of the shoe

The midsole is made up of Lightstrike Pro foam which is soft and plush but also adds a good level of bounce and speed assistance. The great thing about this foam is that it can do all this while still remaining light in weight. When I was running I could really feel myself bouncing along which I really liked. This shoe has managed to strike the perfect combination between very comfortable and soft while still being able to offer good speed assistance.

Sole of the shoe

The outsole of this model is the only area of the shoe that I would change. It doesn’t have any rubber like other Adidas models. This meant that the shoe did not have the traction or grip that other models have. It was particularly at the end of toe offs I could fsometimes feel my foot about to slip. Apart from this the outsole was still very durable.

Conclusion to the Adidas Adizero SL 2

Overall, the Adidas Adizero SL 2 is a great daily trainer that offers excellent levels of comfort and speed assistance. If there is one thing I could change it would be to add some rubber to the outsole to improve traction however apart from that this is a great daily trainer that I would highly recommend.
